A Man in Full by Tom Wolfe.
A friend heartily recommended it to me several times and I just loathed the main character, tried to force myself to read it three times before I gave up in disgust.

It didnt take me a year, maybe a good two weeks , but my most challenging read was Don Quixote - because there was so much rich detail and language in it that I wanted to take it all in and memorize it! It is absolutely beautiful and should be read more than once. Ulysses is a tough read, but Don Quixote is a completely different experience. It is the difference between downing a bottle of Irish Whiskey and savoring a bottle of fine wine. I hope you consider reading it. It has humor, pathos, drama --- everything rolled into one magnificent manuscript. Pax - C.

I am a very fast reader, but, I found The Mists of Avalon hard to read, not intellectually, but because of the change of characters throughout the book. It was an excellent book though.

The Bridge on the River Kwai, I read it last year for English (as a 9th grader). Challenging as it was more of an adult novel, but loved it as it was based on history, which I adore!

John Kenneth Galbraith's, "Anatomy of Power". A fascinating look at how power is gained and how it's used. Very rich reading. Every paragraph could be reread to absorb it all.

Well, the first time I read the Odyssey I could not get into it! I know it's not a hard book, but I just didn't like it. Now I'm reading it again and love it. Just goes to show... =)

Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet." It was not difficult to understand, but it caused me to float away, metaphorically, on some of his ideas.
