I'm a pre-nursing student, it's my third year and I'm going to recieve my AA Transfer degree at the end of this quarter. I originally wanted to take this degree and go straight to BSN. My options have changed and now i wanna go get my associates - pass the boards - and get my BSN - the money situation is tight and it's getting more and more competitive. I KNOW that going into the nursing program is HARD. My mom's a nurse and i've grown up around the environment my whole life. I'm not as book smart but i'm a people person and i'm soo calm about "weird and awkward" situations - i've been volunteering at the hospital since i was 15.
I'm beginning to give up because all of this is hard - i want to be done soon but it's just hard getting there - There are people wanting to be in the nursing program who are smart but who are CLUELESS when it comes to patient care and they suck at communication
i need motivation - HELP! and i'm not getting any younger...

My Dear,I have seen Associate Degree Nursing Students verses Degree Nursing Students and in all reality the Associate Degree Nursing Students though they don't get as much schooling do seem to be the better nurses in the end.
They get more hands on experience than the Degree Nursing Students.
The Degree Nurses get alot of theory from books etc and in a make it or break it situation,they usually fail.
Get your Associate Degree and pass your boards and get a job and earn some money.
Get the experience you need and save your money and IF you want to go on to getting a BSN you will be more prepared,alittle older and perhaps alittle more ready for the challange.
After a bit as a Associate Degree nurse,you may find that this is more to your liking.
Remember,anything worth having is worth working for and sometimes it's hard but in the end it WILL pay off.

does your mom recommend nursing? I would never let my daughter do it as I am a retired nurse. If you need motivation now just wait til you've worked a year. Good nurses are the ones who can take crap from doctors and patients. Patients are at their personal worst when sick, and a nurse does not get a lot of bedside nursing done. It's like a 10 ring circus that pays well.

Almost all my college friends were nursing students. They were so stressed out all the time and were always afraid they were going to fail. They talked about giving up all the time too but none of them did and now they help people in despearte need on a daily basis and get paid a pretty penny for their hard work and dedication. Keep up the good work. We need more nurses out there. You will be fine, trust me.

really you need to analysis your reason of why you wanted to be in the nursing industry in the first place. i find it very rewarding and yes the study was hard. but it is unfortunately the necessary work to do before you are qualified. the study can get you down but you will be thankful when its over. start looking to how it will feel when you have completed your studies. it is a struggle to keep with it - talk to your teacher or class members - after all your in the same boat - if it wasn't for some people in my class i wouldn't of graduated! as i said at the beginning remember why you wanted to get into the nursing industry.... hopefully I've helped... but really it is up to you... stick with it - its really rewarding in the end!

You have come this far....do not give up now!!! This is one of life's little challenges.....you don't feel like you are gaining right now but you are. Your perseverance will pay off in the end. You really seem like you want to do this....let this just be one of life's little challenges that you overcome!! You can do this...you have come too far!!!
