I find this very stupid for foreigners to think the Japanese are some cartoony joke. They only go to Japan because they're only interested in Anime and video games. These people need to get a dang life learn about the Real Japan.

mail_laarni: Evidently, you're an Anime nerd. Just because I made some spelling errors in my question , doesn't mean it will become a good insult. Anime nerds are very annoying. If you don't think so, most likely you're one of them.

Most of the anime fans are not serious enough about Japan to actually go there however, I do know the type of people you are referring to.
It is not that they feel the Japanese people will act like cartoon characters. Usually, the anime fans are outcasts in their own countries, and they see Japan as a place that's "different", so they think that they might fit in better in Japan. Although anime otaku are annoying, it is actually sad that they feel so lonely that they have to fantasize about a place where they will belong.
The Japan they picture is not the "real Japan", and they may be disappointed when they go there, but their imaginary Japan can be a source of comfort when they are feeling down.
On another note, many of them are also not very outgoing, and the Japanese are eager to get to know foreigners, so they may feel that it is easier to make friends in Japan. This is somewhat true however, long-term friendship requires finding common interests, so even these relationships may be very superficial and many Japanese people will become disinterested if the foreigner is too obsessed with anime.

I think you are getting worked up on something very trivial. Don’t get me wrong, anime is the most common introduction to Japan and Japanese culture. Don’t see it as the end but rather as a stepping stone for many foreigners. If you are a foreigner who naturally lives in another country, how else do you get started about knowing Japan? One is to read books and watch documentaries but then how many Japanese documentaries are there in English? Another is anime. Animes contain a lot of interesting things about the culture. The food, the clothes, the language, the places, the practices. And they are widely available. If you are a Japanese, you should be proud of animes because it is letting the whole world know about your culture. On the other hand, it is also bringing lots of businesses for Japan. Think of it as a bridge. And not all anime fans are out of touch with reality. I think you are underestimating a lot of people there.

Who go to Japan because they're only interested in Anime and video games?
Me, and many Japanese don't watch Anime and don't play video games.
And my foreign friends are same. They are rather interested in traditional thing and place.

I don't really know where you are coming from on this question, but every foreigner (non-Japanese) in Japan that I know doesn't feel that way. In fact, the foreigners I know aren't that interested in anime.
I am a foreigner in Japan, and I don't feel that way. I am just very happy to be here, and Japan is the best place on earth for me to raise my kids and have my family. My kids do not even watch the Japanese anime. They like Blue's Clues, and Baby Looney Tunes.

First, learn to spell foreigners.
Second, I don’t think foreigners believe that they will see tentacles making love with Japanese girls or see robots destroying Tokyo when they visit Japan. Do you?
You have an air about you saying ‘I like Japan not because of anime so I am better than you.’ It’s even more annoying than anime otakus out there.

You are wrong my friend, Japan has too many good things, maybe you should get to know more people, different kind of people, it seems you are taking like you know ALL the foreigners who want to travel to Japan.
I agree with mail_laarni. And please don´t say evidently; if you are so good deducting behavior well, you shouldn´t be asking this question.

When I was an exchange student there, many of the other kids who went there with me signed up so they could buy lots of manga and jpop and anime tapes and meet their favorite animator and jrock singer.
It was ridiculous, and all of them were very disappointed when we came home.

Japanese have enthusiasm and they're happy and excited about whatever you're doing or about to do, whereas foreigners seem rather cool to others.
