I just LOVE people who ask very involved questions and then want a quick 10 word answer
Which early civilizationations? Where were the ones you want to know about located?
What PERIOD of history do you want to know about ("early" is VERY nebulous)
If you want a one paragraph answer you need to be more specific or a general answer will be much more than "short and quickly"

Try looking at Ancient Egypt and the relationship between the River Nile and irrigation / farming in Egypt. And ask yourself - what did the River Nile do for the Ancient Egyptians and society.
Sorry i have to agree with the comments with the other answers - you cant answer something like this 'short and sweet'. Otherwise try Wikipedia.
