Me, I'm an optimist. I naturally tend to look on the bright side, so maybe I'm wrong. But before Bush invaded Iraq, nearly half the country supported a war without a UN resolution. Today, only 27% do.

So we've gone from being bitterly divided to being increasingly united. Isn't that a good thing, regardless of your politics?

All of my poll facts come from http://pollingreport.com/iraq.htm

and the fact that the McCarthyite extreme right neither surprises anyone nor really bears on my point.

Where do you get your 27% from? One thing that i know for sure is that i will never unite with you. You are a closet communist.

Unity is not always such a good thing. Look at all the Republicans who DON'T agree with Bush, but in the name of party unity went along with whatever he wanted. Or, for that matter, look at German unity in the 1920's which led to the election of Hitler and ultimately, WWII and the Holocaust.

The only thing Americans appear to truly be united on is keeping the prices low at Mal-Wart.

I'm with you! I was looking at the United for Peace and Justice's website and they made a very striking comment:

It is no longer "will" our troops come home, but instead it is "when" our troops come home.

I too may be overly optimistic, but I believe Bush will finally have to compromise with congress although I know he's really going to hate it......

I can't wait to see them come home. It's been way too long!

I think it will take a new leader for this nation to become truly united. We also must have a common cause that benefits all of us. Sadly, I do not see any potential 2008 candidates for the Presidency that will be able to unite this country.

Unless support collapses to the point that a presidential veto can be over ridden (60%) Bush still has the whip hand and there'll be no "united we stand". The war will continue til at least 2009.

I'm not sure if we're "united" as a nation because we don't support the war like we used to. (I never did.)

But I think it'll be two more Presidencies before we get that far again.

Bush's policies has set us back at least 30 years.
