I'm independent as far as taking care of myself, however the husband and children are not so independent. So, does that make me dependent too?

I am very independent in my personal and financial life. Although I am single and live alone, I still like a hug now and then from a friend.

id like to say independent but thats impossible - as long as you associate with other people on a regular basis youre relying on them for social contact which as research on isolated people has proven is essential to natural human development, enculturation and socialization.
back to a more normal answer, im 17 so i pretend to be independent but in reality i still need my parents who support me and pay for my schooling, car, housing, food, bills, etc.
