I'm writing a book right now, and I've gotten to the point where I'm losing interest in it and want to move on to something else. I'm determined to finish this story, but I know me, and when I quit doing something, I never go back to it. Any suggestions to keep that from happening with this book?

That's because you dont have enough going on in it probably. You need a good outline and character analysis. You need to observe how different characters rub up against each other (primary with secondary) and develop some underlying subplots. Of course if you just have one thing going on it gets boring. The more you know about your characters the more you can put them into different situations and watch them respond. Try stopping the writing for now and going back to basics. A good outline and character studies. Then start looking for ways you can make your characters interact with each other more and also how you can use "showing not telling" to give the reader a better understanding of what kind of people these are and why they are behaving as they do. Then go back to your work in progress and see how you can add some excitement to it. Punch it up. Maybe backtrack a little and add another character or scene that adds more drama and some subplots. Do you work in Word? It's so much easier to add these kind of details when you arent writing by hand. Good luck - write if you have more questions. Pax - C.

Flesh it out. Fight with it.Change it. Keep a notebook or tape recorder...anything to record your Epihinies, those flsahbulb moments we can sometimes get that come almost randomly. think about it..away from the computer or paper..sometimes just envisioining it in your head away from the daunt of a computer screen and jot it dwon somewhere straight away (even if on the walls lol). most of all have fun with it.....and perservere. Writing a coplete novel is great achievment
good luck

You must reach inside yourself and pull out your determination. Could the stumbling block be that you are unsure of where to take the rest of the story? That's enough to stop any of us. Make yourself a promise to decide what the best plan for this book, and for you, then make a plan, and no matter what, stick to it. Keep your promise to yourself.

sometimes you just gotta let go. no doubt you've learned some things in the attempt at this book (character sketches, maybe a description of a environment, etc.) that you can use for other stories.

if you're losing interest in it, readers probably will too.

just keep it around and maybe, just maybe you might come back to it.
