Do many Dutch feel as though their country is over-run by foreigners? I've been to Amsterdam half a dozen times, and there are a lot of non-Dutch there. That makes me sad. If the NL lets itself be overrun by non-Dutch, the inate character of Holland will be lost. I hope that doesn't happen.

Some people think so. About 45 % of the inhabitants are of non-Dutch descend. But remember the history of Amsterdam. Amsterdam has been a city with non-Dutch for ages. The intellectual climate thrived on it. It is on world scale a small city (700.000) but still a metropolis. Many big companies have their headquarters in Amsterdam, being such an international oriented city.
The character of Amsterdam is a liberal character, based on cooperation between people from all over the world. That character needs feeding. Preserving it by preventing people to live in Amsterdam is a contradiction.
I do think the migration bring problems. They have to be solved. But not by preserving a Dutch compound.

Amsterdam and other large cities are not representative for the Netherlands. Times are changing, but this is not because of the foreigners but because of the influence of tv and internet. I get the feeling that this is the case in many countries

So? That's what its like to be in America; people coming from all over. Amsterdam would be in even bigger trouble if they lost the revenue from tourism I'd say.

come to Holland, start a political party and get lots of votes with those ideas.

:-)

Like the USA we got waves of immigrants over the centuries so the character did change. It keeps changing.
