There is cheap and then there is free. Court records are public documents, you may examine them at anytime (with a few exceptions), but you will have to pay if you want your own copy of the case.

Cheap involves calling the Clerk of the District (felony) Court and asking them about doing the work for you. They will usually charge less than $20 per person. They will not do any research for you until paid. Also, ask them if the background check is for the entire state or just the county; does it include federal cases as well? When I worked at my local courthouse, the answer was that it was only for the county; neighboring counties had to be checked seperately.

Free (except transportation and parking) requires taking the time to do the research yourself in the courthouse. Go to the Clerk of the District Court office and they should have computer terminals there for you to look up information. The staff will help you if you ask.

There are some problems to realize before you do a background check. The big one is common names. John Smith, Robert Johnson and the like will come up often. Just because a John Smith killed 4 people does not mean that your John Smith did it. You will have to look in the court records based on the Docket & Page number to make sure you have the right person. Look at the booking information in the case file.

The next thing to remember that the information is input by humans. Spelling mistakes happen. A Peterson might become a Petersen completely by accident. Also make sure you have as much information as possible going in. If you don't know the correct spelling of the person's name; there is little point in going to the courthouse. If you are not sure, try using a first initial and the last name. You should also try both Tom and Thom as well as Thomas.

A case listed in the records does not mean the person is a criminal. The record of the case will still be there even if the person was found innocent. If the person filed a protection order against somebody, petitioned the court to change their name, or filed for divorce; the cases will appear in the computer search.

However, lack of a case in the records is no proof either. The case might be so old the computers weren't being used. The case might be in a different juristiction (a different county or state). Also, juvenile records are usually sealed and unavailable. If the person was a minor when the crimes were commited, then there will be no record at all in the computer.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aNIFX

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

On-line background checkers have no more right to information than you do. No State Police will release someone Else's criminal record to you, or anyone else but that person, and for a fee!

If you want a sort-of background check hire a PI?
