Matt, Matt, Matt!!! You deserve 1000 points for this question! No-one's ever been able to state this as concisely as you just have!
It's the bigots out there who give all Christians a bad reputation. They fail to understand that TOLERATING an alternative lifestyle does not mean they're CONDONING that lifestyle.

**Sorry for the long answer but it's worth it..*
I agree, the question is quite well asked and thank you for opening such a complex issue.
I am a Christian. A Catholic in fact and most people go running after they hear that, but please give me a chance. There ARE bigots in this world. Some of them are atheist, some call themselves Christians. Many bigots are running rampant on this site and its a difficult struggle to deal with. I know. HOWEVER, there is no Christian justification for being a bigot, because I know that Christ was not one and he began, lived and ended his life in Love, which has no time to waste on hate.
With that said, even if there are Christians judging others for their sin understand this: No one has the final say on anyone's judgement and that is actually between a person and God Himself. He's a pretty cool guy to talk to, WHOEVER you may be. And when they judge the sin of "homosexuality" they CANNOT---logically---- say that the ORIENTATION is a sin, anymore than a person with A.D.D. is sinful for having a hard time concentrating on prayer.
This said, true Christians who are educated enough by now to know that homosexuality is not a CHOICE of lifestyle, believe that acting on one's homosexual desires is wrong, not simply the orientation, and those who are celibate are just as able to go to heaven as straight people who practice their sexuality correctly.
*In Other Words: Unlike what other users said aboiut cheating one's spouse in a hetero relationship, it is morally UNACCEPTABLE to have sex outside of marriage for straigight people and it is not right to cheat for anyone.
Understand, that there are different degrees of sin from the catholic (as well as Christian perspective) hence the fact that most people don't put candy thieves in jail for life. :)
Certain sins are mortal sins and (unfortunately, in a sense) homosexual ACT(keyword) happen to be in that category. And catholics believe that homosexuals are called to a celibate lifestyle (sigh*). But that gives NO one the right to condemn or judge, for one day all of our sins will be layed bare.
What makes me sad, is that gay people feel it impossible to be Gay AND Christian... and then the fact that gays arguing against "anti-gay" argument feel strictly hated and offer emotional arguments in return (where's da reason/logic...?)
And Yes I am a gay christian and I don't feel like a hypocrite...God's mai best friend. :)
peace n luv

I think one opinion may be that Christians believe in the occurrence of sin, but strive to live a life following Christ and regulating oneself against such sinful actions.
As such, I don't think most Christians who actually understand Christ's teachings use judgement against others in such a negative way. Most who are doing so, do not undestand what it means to practice forgiveness.
Thank you for trying to understand such a complex issue. Just remember, if you truly want to understand a faith, read and learn about is yourself as in depth as you can. Everyone has an opinion, but there are real (un-bigoted) answers too.

Hmmm, i understand that you are directing this question primarily towards christians but i would like to put in my 2 sense.
This question in its self is one of the main reasons why i exclude myself from christianity. I am not gay but have met many good people who were, and i wonder why on earth would these people be condemned to an ETERNAL suffering for being born genetically different. If you argue that they are not born that way then i will not listen to you because you are retarded. But either way, i feel like this concept "especially in christian judao religions sets a horrible example for others to follow, teaching people that its morally ok to be a bigot is horribly wrong.

In order to sin, you need to believe in sin. The rest of us are making choices not sinning. I refuse to equate the way I love with adultery, theft, murder, eating pork....or anything else that's a sin. It's fine to have a religion. Christians just need to stop demanding the rest of us entertain their fantasy beliefs. I long ago stop taking them seriously. Sooner or later, we all have to grow up. It's time for Christians to become adults and join the real world.

I would never judge anyone for their sins... you can love the person and hate the sin... I am sure that I have committed sins that others do not like. My favorite cousin is gay and I still love him! I smoke, therefore I am harming my body which is God's temple... I hope people would not hate me for that!

That is wrong to be judged by your sin. We all sin and come Short of his glory! But the difference is repentance and will power. To have authority over whatever sin (liars, cheats, drunks, adulterers, killers..etc) you may have a problem with. Asking God to forgive you and help you to not do it again. The Bible teaches not to accept sin and just live in it. Repent and try it the way God ask you to do in his Holy Word.

I agree with you. The bible lists some sins though as unnaceptable....homosexuality, fornication, murder and I cant think of them all but they are all equal I believe and its funny how its ok for someone to cheat on their spouse or have premarrital sex but homosexuals are considered beyond that. It is a terrible sin though but we all have sinned and shouldnt judge others.

Because the Bible, which many Christians love to quote, is far from consistent in telling people how to deal with sin, sinners, sexuality as a whole, and life in general. This is why people for religious reasons have both supported and opposed slavery, capital punishment, the war in Iraq, the foreign policy toward Israel, the ordination of women, and dozens of other issues. The church itself is so divided about how to deal with the inconsistent scriptures, it is divided into thousands of denominations.
Even your statement, while conciliatory toward gay people, is judgmental toward those who see it as their duty to kick us in the levitical butts. The only consistency in the church is this: If you expect any sort of unity out of the Christian church, you will consistently be disappointed.

Being gay is not a sin.
Homosexuality is not wrong as long as it is between two people in a loving healthy committed monagamous relationship.
Nonetheless, believe what you will. We agree, Jesus is Lord.
Go in peace, brother.
