In the internet temp. files where the cookies are stored it shows my name attached to the cookie even for sites that I've never gone to. Where does the cookie get my name from and how can I prevent my name from being attached to the cookie?

Further to my question, does that mean if I change the name of my computer then that is what should be picked up on the cookies name except in case where I log in to something like yahoo etc.?

I'm not 100% certain, but it looks from my machine that this is Windows XP's doing, not any website's. I suspect it's a way for Windows to keep parallel cookies for different users of the same machine on the same websites, and the websites neither see nor know anything about it and have no way of getting it.

In all reality, you can't. Big Brother is watching you. When you use a credit card, everything is being tracked by your I.D.. Every time you visit a site on your computer, a tracking cookie is attached. This tells anyone who is interested, that you may be interested in that item or location, hence, bulk mail, advertisements. As soon as you enter you email address, a tracking cookie is attached. You can delete the cookies everyday from your security program. This will only slow them up a little, but it won't stop them.

Some cookies are very harmful, some are not. If you opt to receive cookies, you can always delete them later by:

Internet Options
Delete
Delete Cookies and offline files

For better control, carefully review the Security, Privacy, and Content tabs.

On the Content tab, if you click "enable" you can set more sophisticated restrictions.

They got your name through the identifier on your computer, or through your email address.

Cookies are generated not only when you visit a site. but also when you open a page with an ad on it, or when you click on an ad.

Just clean out the cookies regularly from your browser using the options control.
