Letting the neighborhood know you're going on vacation?

Is it a good idea to let your neighborhood know you're going on vacation when you're pretty sure there is probably a burglar among them?

I have some neighbors I will tell if I am going out of town, they watch my property & will call the cops on any suspicious activity.

They in turn will ask me to watch their property when they are gone.

If you have suspicions about a persons character then no you shouldn't tell them.

I stop the mail -
Stop the newspaper -
Set the electronic alarm -
Contact a CLOSE friend and ask them to come by and check the property -
Contact the Security company and let them know I will be away in case the alarm trips and leave them with my friend's number as a back up -
(Contacting the police is good, if you are in a small town - but large metropolis' wouldn't really be able to do anything with your notification...)
And finally - I am good friends with one neighbor - so I ask him to pick up any mail or papers that are accidentally left... and I give them my friend's number.

I know for a fact there are thieves among my neighbors. Some expensive potted plants were stolen out of my window box overnight... and suddenly the one who kept complimenting me on them - isn't speaking to me....

There are complex monitored security systems that cost a great deal, or simple install-it-yourself ones that will at least freak a would-be-burglar out that sell for under $100.00.

It's a better investment than going door to door to all your neighbors.

Don't tell anyone but that police that you are going on vacation... You can call them and ask them to check on the house when you're gone and they will do it.

because the might start abig party without you,
but if they don't like you or you aways bother them
you shouldn't tell them
