For me (and I am certainly not in college, I'm still young, so take this with a grain of salt), I would start by choosing a topic which I could go into with the most depth, one that I knew most about. If those are the only topics you have been given, and must choose one, pick one that you can feel strongly about, even if you don't quite relate to it. If you are able to pick another topic, choose one, maybe an environmental issue you're concerned about, and persuade someone to fix it. Other than that, I have no other suggestions...

You struck on a key word =persuasive. Try to be persuasive and convincing and asked him if you could write on a topic which has overtones to the subjects he presented but worded differently so you could get into writing a better essay. I do not know what your major is nor what year you are in but may be it is a possibility that you could write a persuasive essay on something relating to your major in school in connection with one of the topics he gave you. I am pretty sure your professor desires that you focus on one of these topics but with the chance that he would be open to your creativity. He seems to me to be rather open by giving you 4 options so I believe it would be best to centralize your objective in considering one of his options. There is nothing wrong in asking a question to him and it might help you because you are showing a capacity for critical thinking and giving the professor the respect due to him by your willingness to stick to one of his topics with a little twist .

hmmm....are those the ONLY choices your instructor allows? If so, youre stucked unless you can write a persuasive essay why you should have liberty to pick another subject.

Well out of these the easiest to do would be controversial tv ads because we see them every day.

if you want length i think the advertising one or drugs one would be best... for advertising theres lots of aspects -- racism, homophobia, freedom of speech, etc -- and for the drugs one theres lots of controversy so it would be interesting to show your perspective...
