If the information can cause someone to get hurt then yes the should.
The students need to think before posting information that would cause harm to another person, just because they hide behind a computer screen does not make them any less responsable.

I absolutely and positively think they have every right to punish students for posting harmful information on the internet.

But then again, I'm of the mind, that anyone under the age of 18, shouldn't even be allowed on the internet at all......I'm a total b*tch when it comes to this issue.

I am sick and tired of hearing about young kids, being enticed/seduced into leaving their homes/families because some perv on the internet says *I love you* to them......

At the beginning of the school year a form is sent home to be signed by student and parent so that the student is allowed to use the Internet at school. Parents will be called in if any problem arises, not the administrators.

If it is done from school, yes.

"Freedom of speech"? We are talking about minors posting harmful or dangerous info on the internet, not about denying rights. Come on, that's simply common sense. Let's get real shall we?

When a person is on school property they must follow the school rules and besides it is illegal to post harmful info on the internet no matter where you are...

FOLLOWING RULES is an adult thing to do. It keeps you out of trouble all through life.

Hmm, you would never guess which ones in this thread are answers from kids, would you?

Free speech indeed, yes we all know how important that is, but we are on about kids here not fully matured adults. If its about school or done at school then it should be punishable.

Definitely if the student is using school computers. They're school property and should be used for learning, not harming....just as any computer should be.

indeed they should. kids in high school have no clue how hard college is...imagine going 4 years or more to school...busting your tail for a degree, to have someone take away what you have worked so hard for? teachers have families to support...what happens when they lose their job? no house, no food...etc... kids need to know that their actions have consequences... i think that if students set out to be harmful they should be expelled!

The schools have the right to dictate how students use school computers, but as far as anything done away from school, no.

I like that First Amendment thing. If whatever they post is legal, it's none of the school's business.
