I hear a clicking sound when turning on my pc. After turning it off and on again a few times it usually stops and all will resume as normal. lately I've been getting the message dells disk monitoring system has detected that drive 0 on the primary EIDE controls is operating outside of normal specifications. I don't know if it is related to the fact that the UPS has stopped.

If it sounds a little like metal hitting metal or the clicks of a timer then indeed the read/write heads on the hard drive may be failing.... more precisely the electromechanics that control their movement.

There would likely be no connection to the UPS whatsoever.
Please backup your personal files from the hard drive ASAP & check your warranty for support.

The good news ... a replacement hard drive is not that expensive.

How old is the computer? if its ancient it might just be some component is wearing out, or if not you can get a can of air and clean it out. Mine is alot quieter. Make sure you clean the power supply and all the fans too.
