They use radios -- radio waves don't require air or other matter because they are a form of electromagnetic waves. Sound waves do require air, water, or some other matter to travel through.

You realize they don't take their helmets off, right? Because then they would die. There are radios hooked into their helmets, like walkie-talkies, that allow them to communicate. And air inside of their suits, of course, because of the no air and dying thing again.
