Do Americans feel so threatened by foreigners that they will only feel safe when they have dominated the entire world?

Perhaps if they tried to understand what goes on in the rest of the world, instead of thinking they know when they clearly don't, then they might feel less threatened and paranoid, and as for dominating the world or trying to, doesn't history teach you anything, any nation/empire or idiotic despot that has tried that has always come to sticky end, most Americans are friendly decent people, but are so isolated by their obvious lack of understanding or should I say failure to understand the finer points of what is really happening in the rest of the world, when I speak to any American I am always surprised by the naivety and ignorance they show on any subject out side their country, and maybe only peace will ever come when America stops thinking about how it can control every natural resource and stop being the biggest polluter on the planet and think about the real issues like how to give every one of its citizens free or affordable healthcare that any truly wealthy nation should have as a basic right not as a privilege, America is a great country but in many ways a country that is like a spoiled child, greedy, selfish and stupid, and in comparison to many nations very backward.

I don't think Americans would go as far as "dominating the entire world" but I certainly believe that they would be more than willing to change it to meet their own end. For example: Iraq; since 9/11, they've been practically harassing the country, and now Iraq's going for democracy, like America. They're making it harder for Mexicans to cross the border, leaving hundreds, if not thousands, stuck in poverty in their own country simply because they "pose a risk" that doesn't even exist in the first place. I don't know why they haven't started on the Canadian borders yet: that's where all the terrorists are coming through.

Then there's also the fact that America has enough nukes to probably blow up the world several times over if they wanted; heck, they could try and build a "perfect world" like Hitler tried to make the "perfect race;" and yet they haven't (yet).

No, I think of them merely as children. Some may want to rule the world one day, but that doesn't define every single child on the face of the earth, now does it? Rather, every child has specific needs and the government's way in over their head thinking that they can even try to please a third of them without pissing the others off; so they screw up in controlling the country altogether while attempting to make everyone happy while actually making them angrier. What I wonder is what's going to happen when that anger finally reaches the limit; I'm afraid the few that are satisfied with their lives won't be able to overpower the rest.

Keep in mind that Americans won't take **** being thrown in their face. If they are fought or attacked, they will fight and attack even harder. It's like trying to tell Mohammed-Ali that he isn't the greatest, even though everyone has their right to their own opinion; it just isn't done.

O wise one all we want is to be left alone just like the rest of the world ... if country's would take care of their own problems they would not need police to keep them in line .. The United States must be what the rest of the world wants, millions of people come to America each year just to be free and not be bothered. you don't see Americans wanting to leave their country ....

This American feels that his government should be less involved in the economies and policies of foreign nations. We need to take more care of ourselves because there are cancers growing.

Why would someone ask a question like that? It's as bad as if I were to ask why all Iranian's, Saudi Arabians, or Afghani's terrorize our country and kill thousand's of innocent people over one stupid, stupid man, and yes, I AM referring to George W. Bush. Question's like this is precisely why there is no peace in our world.

Yes, many Americans feel that way. Sadly.

But even if that becomes America's new Manifest Destiny, it won't bring peace. It will just change the labels on the sides.

And just who exactly told you that?

The average American would be very happy to be left alone at home, living our lives as we see fit. Now if it just wasn't for those pesky terrorists, OPEC, illegal immigrants and foreign countries predatory trade practices screwing up our lives!

You can keep your country if I can keep mine.
