never in the ignition, but as a teen, my step-mom and I went on a vacation to the other end of the state, and I locked the keys in the trunk, on a Sunday. It was a miracle that I actually found a garage open on a Sunday so they could Jimmy the lock. That was before I sarted driving. Because of that incident, I always keep two sets of keys on me at all times, one set in each pant pocket. I have never locked myself out since.

That's why my girlfriend has a key. I did that once when I broke down. Just by natural reflex, I locked the door as I went outside to check out under the hood. I realized once the door was closed, I locked myself out, with the lights on and my cell phone inside the car. I gradually watched the lights fade as the battery died and waited for someone to offer my a hand. I had to have my car unlocked to get my phone and keys, had to have my car towed to the shop and had to get the battery charged.

Not anymore. My new car doesn't allow you to lock your keys in the ignition. Thank God

Yes, and at times that can be a real problem.
It happened to me once and it was getting ready to rain. I had a convertable at the time and the top was down. But the time the car club got there, my upholstry was soaked. . .
