Hi. Scan for malware. AdAware , Spybot , etc... Usually means the system is either infected or overloaded. ' Ctrl Alt Del ' one time and check for processes that are chewing up CPU cycles. Stop them one at a time.

If the computers tends to only freeze when its working hard (ie playing games or encoding video for example) Try cleaning the heat sink on the CPU. Many times they get chocked up with dusk and the fan can no longer cool it properly. The CPU then gets hot and results in a crash/freeze. I have found that there can be a 10-15 deg C difference in CPU operation temperature just by cleaning the heatsink.

Best way to clean it is with a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner.

The freezing up is probably not caused by RAM.
This sounds like a virus or other forms of malware. Download Spybot Search and Destroy. Turn off System Restore - do a virus and spyware scan in safe mode.

run a virus scan if this doesn't work you may have to restore the computer to fix this problem which means you will lose everything on it but it should cure the problem

Go to Panda software, do an online scan. Mine did that. I had a virus that my virus software didn't pick up.
