What is a power commander for? How will it help with my GSXR 1000?

The power commander will also allow you to tune your bikes power curve for different tracks and to compensate for altitude adjustments. The stock mapping of your ECM may not work well at altitudes different from where the bike was set up. Some bikes are mapped poorly by the factories specs to pass emissions standards. Strangely though.... I have a Buell that was mapped by Buell factory technicians at 6000' altitude while competing at Donner Pavement Hill-climb. It ran good at sea level where I live(100') but terrible at 6000'. After they re-mapped it it runs great everywhere. In fact it runs way better than another Buell that I've not had re-mapped. A power commander will allow you to do all this yourself without depending on a dealer to re-map it.

The power commander is used to compensate for changes in your engines Air/fuel requirements. adding high flo air filters or aftermarket exhaust changes the ammount of fuel your engine needs.
many times a bike will run fine with aftermarket parts but more power can be found by properly tuning the engine with a power commander or similar device,

I bought one for my husband for our anniversary (yeah I know I am just a romantic kind of gal what can I say). I said it has made a huge difference with his bike. Look up the stats and call to find out. If you can use it, look for it on Ebay you can usually get it cheaper...that's if you don't have a romantic gal to get it for you...LOL
