Howard Stern is manipulating the voting on American Idol to make Sanjaya Malakar win. Sanjaya is the Indian contestant with the crazy hair. I think Howard is trying to prove that American Idol is based on popularity instead of musical talent. I think he's trying to tell America that American Idol is a more of a commercial than it is art.

They're trying to prove that it's all fixed by the producers. The producers obviously take in consideration of what the viewers want to see...but in the end the decision is purely business and publicity. Thats why Taylor Hicks won, because it got major publicity and drew in alot of non-idol viewers. Everyone knows that the producers have a hand in the contestents from the start of the audition process, why would they then suddenly turn it over for the public to decide? Thats just a stupid way to run a business.

It didn't take Howard Stern to point that out.
As much as I used to like the show, it is really a promo for At&T and CIngular Wireless.
The funny thing is, the judges put Sanjaya in the top 24.
Now Simon seems to wonder where he came from.
Sanjaya is a 17 year old kid who did well in the auditions - but he's out of his league. I think he's doing better than I would be doing if I were in his shoes...it would be hard to hold your head up high when everyone clearly is "voting for the worst"....Stern should have minded his own business or come up with a different voting plan... Stern is the loser.
Mind you, I am not for Sanjaya - but he is in an awkward spot that he did not ask for - if the show went on as in the past.
I am sure Sanjaya feels badly that really great performers like Sabrina got voted off while he remained - but he is not responsible for that - . We can thank Howard for that

I'm a fan of Idol and not of Stern and I don't think it much matters.

Yes, Sanjaya may stay on the show longer than warranted and a few contestants may leave a week sooner than warranted, but by the end, someone deserving will win.

In the past, weaker singers have stayed on the show longer than warranted, but when the vote is split among only a handful of contestants rather than ten or twelve, the weak singer can no longer attract enough votes.

Even if Sanjaya would win the contest, I think he would have just as many sales as any other contestant. None of the contestants have all of the qualities necessary to become a long-term recording artist.

no... howard stern is just being a jackass. he and the others voting for sanjaya have ruined the show for me. votefortheworst.com is proving to be a big factor on american idol now since their prodigy last season won it all... remember taylor hicks? yeah... that was mostly votefortheworst.com's doing. (check their website... on the homepage taylor hicks is holding a shirt in support of their site!) there's a really high chance they could succeed again this season with sanjaya. american idol has become a big joke now so since last week, ive boycotted the show but kept on voting for my favorites to help guarantee they will stay.

I agree that he's trying to manipulate the vote, but anyone with any sense at all will make their own choice who to vote for, and not do it because some idiot shock jock tells them who to vote for. Unfortunately, people have made American Idol into a popularity contest. In my opinion, the real true talents of the show are Lakisha Jones and Little Miss Melinda Dolittle. They've all had the exposure now, and I'm sure that their talents will speak for them in the bigger scheme of things, regardless of who wins the title.
(I can't believe Mesquite called Taylor Hicks "middle aged".)

I wouldn't be too concerned about Howard Stern. You might not realize this but the voting actually doesn't matter. American Idol is scripted, my friend.

Yes I think it's really unfair to the other contestants with real talent. Howard isn't proving a point he's getting a lot of publicity out of this.

no, I think he's telling it like it is. He (and some anti-American Idol website) also influenced the voting that made Taylor Hicks the winner last season.

do you really think that the producers of the show wanted some middle-aged man to be the winner over Katharine McPhee?

American Idol is art?

Yes, I think it's unfair for him to try to manipulate the vote, especially as he is a TV/radio personality. I think he's really a jerk, anyway.
