That depends. If your husband became ill on the job, or can prove that the job caused the injury, then the employer must pay through worker's compensation. However, there are limitations! If your husband does not pass a drug exam (usually a urine test), he WILL be denied compensation. Also, if he waited too long to report the incident, he MAY be denied. Quite frankly, there is financial assistance available from the hospital in emergency situations such as this. You CAN set up a payment plan.

If he got sick on the job, whether or not he's got carbon monoxide poisoning, his employer should have been notified immediately by your boyfriend. His employer should have worker's compensation insurance. The worker's comp should pay for the hospital bill, regardless of whether or not he's sick from it.

"might have" won't get any bills paid. After you invest $50,000 in a legal case, then maybe you'll get some of it back in a successful lawsuit.

You/he has to pay for it either way.

If someone else is ultimately to blame, you can sue them in civil court to recover those expenses. But initial payment is yours/his.
