Do you really care or do you like to get things stirred up.When anyone starts talking about slavery it gets some people worked up.I don't no if you were alive when roots came out like I was it was a nightmare. There were riots and looting everywhere. The day after it aired the black people were angry and for good reason but the anger was aimed at all white people.and still is today and anyone who says it isn't has never lived in the inner city like I have. If I don't answer your question Q&A won't allow this to be read so here is my answer to your question. One of the punishments were cutting off a foot so he could not run away again.

I believe the most common punishment was cobbling. I am not sure of the spelling but its basically breaking the foot of the slave so he cant run see the movie Misery for a good idea of how it was done . There is also the beatings, selling of your family and of course death in front of the other slave to show you cant get away. I am sure there were others but these are the most common.

Runaway slaves were whipped in front of other slaves, a foot might be amputated, they might be fitted with leg shackles or chained to another slave. They might be sold away from their family and kin on one farm to another far away. The punishments were about as brutual and inhumane as you can imagine.

some slaves were severely whipped/abused/tortured.. some were even killed. it depended upon the level of brutality of the owner. if the owner was feeling generous, they'd just sell them to a different farm far away from the slave's family.
