My uncle has been through jail many times. His problems were rooted in his drinking, lack of self control, and lack of motivation. He has been out of jail for 5 or 6 years now. He is married and has 3 children. He has finally found what he loves to do, work on motorcycles. He loves mechanics, but never knew how to engage himself properly or how to work with people. Both he and his wife went through Alcoholics Anonymous together. The support was excellent for the both of them. His wife's son from a previous marriage will be going into high school next year. He and his family found a church and have been attending regularly. I am very proud of him for finally growing up, being a man, and getting the help he needed. I hope this helps you.

I had a felony conviction in 1984. I couldn't get a job anywhere, so I started doing handyman work and mechanicing to support myself. The only legal things since then are three parking tickets.
I am presently in an institution for disabled veterans where I've been for the last 15 years.
You can turn your life around after a felony, but it is difficult as people want you in prison. You have to develop a different way of thinking and not socializing with the same kind of people as when your felony took place. You have to become a totally different person.

I've known some that turned their life around. The sad part is that their felony followed and haunted them all of their lives. It showed up for renting houses and apartments. It showed up when applying for jobs.
