I am looking to be a nurse practitioner and want to go to a large University preferably about 500 miles radius from Atlanta. Have only 3.2 gpa 1100 sat. Have been active in clubs bbyo and community affairs.

Also and ideas to get into other large Universities with obscure majors for first semester because of gpa.

OK, so what's the question? I have one for you. Have you looked at Physicians Assistant? In most cases a Nurse Practicianer is 8 years, that's a doctorate. A PA used to be a 2 year degree, then a 4 year, now is 6. You get out 2 years faster, and make essentially the same amount of pay, will be doing the same and in a lot of cases, will be working more independently of a physician. Nurse practicianers came into being because they were disgruntled about haing to take orders and for having to do bed pan duty... PAs came into existance when there was a shortage of physicians and they discovered a great many of us Navy Corpsmen were well experienced -- including not just the O.R., but also frontline combat. I used to work circles around the snot nosed, wet behind the ears, physicians who'd been practicing for 8 to 10 years...
If you can do the Chemistry, Biology, Micro Biology, Physics and Calculus, I'd say apply for PA!

First things first: I'm not sure why you want a school with an obscure major. Elaborate?

And do you want to be 500 miles AWAY from Atlanta, or is that as far as you want to go?

The great thing about Georgia is that there are so many freaking large universities there. The bad thing (for you) is that they are increasingly being filled with great students who would have gone elsewhere if not for the Georgia Hope Scholarship.

But your SAT scores are a bit above average, and your GPA is certainly not hopeless. You've been active in some activities, which is good. Hopefully your essays will show what a great prospect you are, and you will have good letters of recommendation.

Georgia Southern would probably be an easy in for you. And they have a nursing major.
UGA is not likely.
GA Tech is really not likely.
GA State is a possibility.

All have nursing programs. In fact, most large universities have nursing programs. The key is to find one where you fit in academically and feel comfortable.
