Depends on what you're using it for. For cooking, we've recently discovered old fashioned cast iron . . . and love it! If the choice is between steel and aluminum, however, I'd use stainless steel. But since your question is under home and garden, maybe you just want to carry something in a pan, in which case aluminum will accomplish the same thing and be a lot lighter.

I don't know if today's aluminum cookware is improved or not. In the past we were told that aluminum releases poison into your food while it is being cooked.
I always preferred stainless steel cookware.

It really depends. I use Iron Skillets. Our bodies need iron (See vitamin labels). The iron skillet provide the iron in cooking. BUT, they need seasoned and, you use three. One for meat, Fish and Onions as they can flavor. Never wash with soap, it cut you season, just wipe clean under a hot water, this why you have three!!!!
But, there are other opinions, this mine and I happy.
Ask one day about REAL silverware? Ha! It good to learn.

depends what for, and on your strength. My mom, who's about 5'3" 100lbs uses some alu. pots for weight purposes, especially when full of water or oil for cooking.
High levels of alu. in the brain always occur with alzheimers (old timers, how ever you spell it) though, so cooking with it might not be the best idea, although the last I checked it was just correlation, not causation.
