Hi, I have just created a database using Access 2003 and I think the forms I have made look great. However, I was wondering if there was any way I could create a desktop icon which would open the forms. Currently, as I open Access, the Main form opens up, however, I want to click on an icon and ensure that the main form opens. Please give detailed answers, much appreciated, Ilsa

You can choose which forms to show to a given user in a number of ways.

The easiest way is to open your database and choose Tools --> Startup

In the Display Form / Page pull-down, select your main form.

Click OK.

That will ensure your main form always shows up on start. You can also hide tables and other controls from other users; limit the toolbar options they have; etc.

You can further control what users and groups can see your forms with Tools --> Security and its options.

Under tools, select start up. This function lets you determine what view, what tools are allowed, several things, that happen when you open your data base. You can select which form you want displayed on start up from a drop down box. To make a shortcut for your data base, after you have closed Access, got to your data base's folder and right click the file name, and select "sent shortcut to desk top". You can rename the shortcut or even select a different icon by right clicking the icon and selecting properties.

Hello...Try this - Open your database and make sure the Database Window is visible. Then, restore down your database window so you can see your desktop in the background. Then, drag the form for which you want the shortcut onto your desktop. Rename the shortcut if you desire. When you click on the shortcut you just created your database should open to whatever form your shortcut is pointing.

Yeah. Under one of the menus you'll find something like "Start up...". Click that option, you'll find a start-up field which can be used to set your preferences. Then, goto the directory holding the db file. Simply create a shortcut and distribute shortcut to your desktop.

Oh yeah oh no OO OO OO. click-and-drag the form icon to the desktop and select "...'

You can define an AUTOEXEC script, I think, that opens the main form. Whenever you open the database, it'll run the AUTOEXEC, so it'll always open the main form, so just make a shortcut to the database on the desktop should do it. Of course, you'll need to check on that. Try searching for AUTOEXEC in the help...
