building a chain link fence?

Question

I'm going to be building a chain link fence. I got most of it figured out but how do you know how far to set the corner post so the link fits onto the bar that sides through the link. say I have 50' corner to corner well when you stretch it out hoe do you get the edge of the link to fit in the right spot to accept the bar that slides through it ? you know what I mean

I've installed a few miles of fence in my time, and the posts always are set first, then the link is attached after the fact. You get the fence stretched and in the process determine where the bars will be placed to allow bracketing to each post.

Go with Stephen W's answer. The fence will stretch, and if it doesn't stretch far enough, at a distance of 50', you will never notice if the fence is moved back one segment. Additionally, you don't want the fence to be too tight.

Prepare Fence Layout
Measure the overall length of your planned fence to determine how many feet of chain-link fabric and top rail will be required.

Mark the location of each terminal post (corner, end, and gate posts are called terminal posts) with a stake. When determining the positions of gate posts, remember that clearance for hinges, latches, etc., is included in the listed opening width of the gate. Therefore, if you ordered a gate for a 36" opening, the post spacing should be exactly 36", inside post face to inside post face.

If you have 50 ft it should look something like this:
O....................O............................O.........................O.................O
CP 12.5ft 12.5ft
Corner Post,12.5,12.5,12.5,Corner Post.Since the fencing comes in 25ft. or 50 ft sections,if everything is on center,attaching it should be a breeze.

you can add or remove onto the fence.. cut the top and bottom of one wire loop and unwind to seperate.. or wind one back in to make it longer
