i just bought this real expenseve stereo that supposedly i can connect a usb mass storage divice to it but that just dont make sense how that would work without the computer hooked up to it its a philips dvd micro theatre iv read the instuctions but there not to clear as to how it works can anyone tell me how the heck this thing works

USB Direct music Feature :
Simply plug your device into the USB port on your Philips DVD system. Your digital music and photos will be played directly from the device.
Works by reading the file formats on the external device. So long a s they are MP3 or JPEG (& others) they will be recognized & displayed on your screen.
