Think about what you are most passionate about. That will identify a niche. Then I recommend you do a little research with the Business Opportunity Search Engine. Try a search for WAHMS
Being community driven it’s a cross between a search engine and a Wikipedia. You can add, delete and improve the results for much more focused answers than a general search engine can provide.

Without knowing you or your interests, it's probably going to be hard for folks to help you out. I know you said you didn't want links but I do have resources that should be able to assist you further:
Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Direct sales is a great work at home business for a mom! I am in a direct sales company right now. I appreciate the flexibility in hours that I have and I love being my own boss! You can usually start with a direct sales company for a very small investment. My company's kit cost $99. I can earn 40%+ on everything I sell! The support a direct sales company can offer you as far as training and networking is also great when starting a business.

If you are a good typist, then being a virtual assistant is a hot home-based business right now. It allows you to set your own schedule and you are just being an assistant to a particular corporation in the privacy of your home. Another one that is a good home-based business is crafting parties. You can sell things like jewerly, baby products and other crafty stuff by having parties at your home and showcasing your products to customers. Don't know your whole situation, but if you like pets, anything related is really hot right now. I have left my Full time job and now I am slowing getting into Dog Breeding.
And I know you said no links but..... hey your on the net!!
I have just started working on this site today!! You can open a Store for FREE sell anything and have Google Checkout PayPal etc. Compare that to eBay!!

home business, i dont know, if i did, id have one. cleaning houses is the best, set your own hours, home by the time the kids get home from school. no weekends, nights, or holidays.
