Jill,

My take on your question.

I don't really care about either. I look at this as a form of entertainment, something to pass the time...nothing serious. After all, all the best answers, points or stars or reaching the next level is going to help you pay the bills.

If you're going for best answers, I can tell you what I do.

First, answer serious questions only. That means skipping through the fun stuff, especially on P&S...after all, you can provide all the thoughtful, intelligently worded answers in the world, but it's falling on 'deaf ears' if the questioner isn't serious.

Second, I would stay away from Religion and Spirituality. You may get some thought provoking questions, and I see a lot of good questions posted there, but at the end of the day, folks by in large choose answers that mirrors their own beliefs.

Third, answer questions about subjects which you are familiar. The best answers come from those who have intimate knowledge on the subject matter, be it from study or experience. Just as a thirty year old woman is not going to find satisfying advice about what steps should be taken with a cheating spouse from a nine year old boy, good answers to those types of questions usually come from those that have been there, and can provide objective point of view.

Fourth, use proper English and use that spell check. Folks who have serious questions usually appreciate answers that are easy to read and understand, and it lets them know that you are serious about what you wrote.

I'm sure there will be many people who disagree, based on the 'thumbs' rating...don't worry about those. They are purely subjective, meaning that it doesn't matter whether you answered say, 1 + 1 = 2...there's always going to be some smart-aleck out there who's going to click on the 'thumbs down'.

In closing, I'm not going to tell you that I have the largest percentage of best answers...not even close. However, I can say that they have all come about honestly...I don't go vote for my own answers when they come up for votes, nor do I have more than one log-in so that I can stack the votes in my favor. I'm not saying all those who have high Best Answers percentage do this...but you'll find some that do.

I starred you. Don't try so hard this is suppose to be fun. We all have an off day, I have when I am tired and got way off track and missed totally what the question meant.

You should stop trying to help people for the points and the best answers but to actually reach out and help these questioning people.

Ok, so am I and I want to get a few answers best myself, I think you don't probably answer the question or probably the answer is wrong! Good luck, and good luck to me, too. I hope you get your answers to be best.

You get stars for your questions, not your answers. People tend to star questions they find interesting.
