if you do decide to leave them outside of a fry net and in the main tank, you will need to buy a sponge cover or something because your filter will make easy work of them. at walmart you can get one for jus a couple bucks and havent failed me yet!

To be honest you really don;t have anything to worry about. Danios are egg layers, not livebearers and therefore don't get pregnant. You will only have eggs if they feel condition are right to breed and you will only have good eggs if you have both a male and female. Futher, all of the fish inthe tank (and the crab) are probably avid eggs eaters, most all fish are.

The odds of you having baby danios without trying to breed them in correct conditions is really, really slim. So don't worry, they will wait until you are ready and able to set things up for them.

do you have any fake ivy or any of the fake type plants that have the shinny cloth leaves and flowers? Or even the plastic plants that are used in reptile tanks. I have bought those type plants at Wal-mart and used the small leaf ivy and what not plants in my tank. Now I I have planted tanks and love them. Anyway you can twist the wire around and make a tight bunch of leafage that will keep the fry safe. Make sure you wash the plants before you use them if they have been gathering dust for the last few years. Just use water no soap rinse all the dirt and dust off. good luck

zebra danio are egg layers...it takes about three days to hatch. if you want a cheap soultion to give the fry a place to hide ( they usally hide in the gravel, but you could also use a plastic scrubbie for dishes, make sure it does not come with any soap or detergent on it, drop it in boiling water for 10 minutes, let it cool drop it in the tank.
get the mesh ones that look like this http://www.bettymills.com/shop/product/view/Premiere%20Pads/PAD235.html ... the fry can get in and be safe from being eaten. good luck.
