25. I scrape up too many kids off the streets. They need to do a lot more growing up before being given that responsibility and privilege.

There should NOT be a "universal legal drinking age" for the US.
This is an issue that should be left to STATE legislatures to decide.
There is NOTHING in the US Constitution that authorizes Congress to make any laws setting the drinking age. The reason that all states use 21 today is that Congress decided to deny Federal Highway Funding to those states which did not raise the drinking age. They did the same thing with requiring the use of seat belts, and the national speed limit (which was 55 for too damn many years.)

Here in Australia, the legal drinking age across the country is 18, and I think it's appropriate. Granted 18-year-olds aren't the most responsible bunch, but you can guarantee they'll drink whether it's legal or not - I'd rather not see them go over the top with it because 'forbidden fruit' is more appealing.

18 or 19
18 because you are a legal adult, but someone made the point that many 18-year-olds are still in HS so 19 seems fine too.
To all those idiots who propose 99 or older, you are completely ridiculous. Go read up on Prohibition.
To all those idiots who also say that drunken driving is the reason we should have a higher drinking age, why not just have harsher penalties for DUI/DWI? Duh. I mean, some countries kill people for drinking and driving - you think DUI/DWI is a problem there? Duh.

If my nephew could fight a DAMN war in Iraq at 18 and be killed there. Then I DAMN well think that 18 should be the legal age to drink or anything else! Does anyone agree?

First of all, if it's only in the U.S., it would be a national drinking age, not a universal drinking age.
I think 19 is fine.

I want to say 21. BUT if a person is OLD ENOUGH to join the Military and go fight for our country at 18, then as far as I am concerned he IS OLD ENOUGH to drink.

23 because I think we should just up the age a little. People are starting to become careless at 21. Have you seen the news lately, there have been more deaths due to drunk driving and there is a raise on binge drinking.
