How do people become wicked, Does everyone start out with the same amount of good, and the same amount of evil, what makes them choose their "side"? Is it the envirement they grow up in, but then why do some nice people grow up around evil people, and visa versa?

I think that becoming evil is a choice. I don't think people become evil as a direct result of their personal circumstances, but it must play some kind of role in the availability of resources needed. For instance, you would not abuse drugs if you had no access to drugs. The same goes for evil-doings. If you have never been exposed to wickedness, then you may be less likely to do it.

That said, I believe that when someone decides to do something wicked, they are making a conscious choice, with malevolent intentions. I have not seen or heard of someone being evil without wanting to cause harm. If they didn't want to cause harm, then it would be a mistake, and they would be remorseful, thus no longer being wicked.

So, what causes someone to become evil? Darkness of heart, spirit, and a disregard for the good that is in them or in the world. The wicked person really would have to hate themselves or others, and just not care at all. That is my opinion, anyway.

We all have a dark side to us and resisting temptation can be difficult for anyone. Sometimes the thrill of being wicked wins out, sometimes we can get fed up and want to strike out, sometimes we are subjected to bad stuff and sometimes the choice of being bad is just a choice some prefer to make. I think all of us are inherently good - and I think many of us have done a good job keeping life on the good side. It can be how you grow up and how you are treated - but know this, some of the most awful criminals in history had a regular childhood and were seen as basically good guys. If I were to guess at why, my belief is that somewhere inside of us there's a switch, and once in awhile that switch goes haywire and that's what jumpstarts wicked.

With most people turning evil is a gradual process wherein Satan lures them little by little, starting with lesser evil decisions that eventually has them to the point of chained completely in sin.

It's not that the devil is greatly intelligent, but he has been among us long enough to know what people want in the baser aspects of life. His snares are often disguised, tempting an employee to take home office supplies because the company has so much in stock. From there it leads to other dishonest moves at work and at home.

The snares become tighter with consequential actions, tempting man and woman in carnal and lustful desires, dishonest dealings with others, and they become deceitful liars so ingrained they don't know what the truth is.

Climbing out of this pit of damnation is always difficult, but through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, He has made it possible to sincerely repent and change for the better, thereby receiving forgiveness. The change won't happen until the person is willing to take the first step to repent and ask forgiveness of God.

Good question!

Part of the answer can be seen from this, just prior to God bringing on the flood, this is indeed was the job Adam & Eve did on the human family:

(Genesis 6:5) “5 Consequently Jehovah saw that the badness of man was abundant in the earth and every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only bad all the time. . .”

--SO THEN from what we inherited, and please notice it is only the INCLINATION, what we do with that is really our choice! So indeed it never has been out of our control to be good--FOR ANYONE! Unless they were clinically insane!

HERE IS THE RECIPE for evil , wickedness, mayhem, etc.

(James 1:13-15) “13 When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. 14 But EACH ONE is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his OWN DESIRE(my caps). 15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.”

--THE NICE people work very hard at not being tainted by the filth that others practice! OR the environment, they live in!

Don't post links like that. It's mean to play jokes on people who are trying to learn what to think. It's confusing or insulting, at least to me, when that happens.

I think turining wicked is a choice. Your environment influences your choices of course, but some people are stronger than others. Turning wicked is basically not caring about morals, right? So some people learn to care, while others already care. Personality's a factor too.

I believe that everyone is born with the same amount of knowledge about what's right and what's wrong. Some people are born with a tendancy to rebel more than others, or maybe they just grow up that way. Either way, I think that it is mostly one's upbringing and surroundings that define what they'll become.

People are what they are. We don't choose to be good or evil, we simply are. It is only a matter of time to discover which of those we are and embrace it.

Oh, when people do not like what is there, and they insist to have what they like, the priorities get shifted 'violently' ushering wickedness in minds to make the situation suitable to meet their liking a bit faster !

What are the roots of all evil.. Greed, envy, lust.
For good... love, compassion, empathy, sympathy.
