What Alberto did was correct. Alberto Gonzales has the authority given by the head of the legislative power to fire any attorney unsuburdinated below him.

Gonzales is being attacked for what he did, and what he is charged with doing.
This issue is entirely unrelated to any potential impeachment of Bush.
