Whatever you do, don't spend money on them. You can get tons and tons for free off Craigs list. Tire stores SHOULD pay YOU the $2 fee but won't. Yes, every time you get new tires you pay a $2 disposal fee so you taking these off their hands is $2 in their pockets. win win.

I would not do it. Exposure to Carcinogens take years to show up in the body. I'd be especially concerned for the children. I cringe when I read about the latest craze, using colored shredded tires in gardens as a mulch. Rubber is a carcinogen.

Well as far as planting goes I cant help. However, my brother uses old tires to catch cat fish. He puts them in a lake where cat fish are and they go inside looking for food or whatever and cant get out. Sorry that dont answer your ?. Anyhow it isnt hard to find old tires. Just ask people you know if they have any. The hard part is getting rid of old tires.

I don't see the difference of an old tire and a pot made of Clay. It is the same thing as long as it is dirt. There will be no potential risks unless there is oil around from cars which can be dangerous. Old tires can be obtained at the dump, tire replacement stores, and places where they sell auto parts from old cars.

It's perfectly safe. The veggies you get at the store are much more risky in terms of chemicals. Get a tire at a local junk yard and wash it really good. Happy Gardening!

I have grown potatoes in them for years and have had nothing but good results. Many others grow other types of veggies and flowers in theirs with no problems what so ever.
Take them to a tire dealer and you will be charged a few dollars per tire but it is worth it.

yes you can plant and eat them just fine, check auto junkyards, and even check used tire places, you may be able to purchase some unusuable worn tires cheap at either of those types of places

I always give my old tyres a good old scrub down with soapy water first, just to be safeetc, then fill those tyres full with good fertiliser, blood n bone & plant some interesting plants! :-)
A good tyre service centre will have lots of free old/worn tyres!

Yes. Go to the local landfill, they are always looking to get rid of them (you can't bury tires).
