Ain't got a clue, I don't care for that show either.

I thought about this and I figured it out. Family Guy was an excellent show for the first two seasons, but then it fell off. However, I realize what keeps people tuning in: ONE BIG LAUGH! The appeal about Family Guy is that, even though it's not nearly as funny or clever as it used to be, you never know when they're going to do something really outrageous and original that it'll have you cracking up for five minutes straight. It gets to the point where you watch a whole terrible episode on the off chance that you'll get that one big laugh.

I personally don't watch this show much. I find it a little bit funny, but prefer other comedy shows; so I just don't watch it.
I think the fact that one can get away with more in cartoons, South Park being an excellent example of that, makes them appealing to people. Issues tackled in cartoons like The Family Guy couldn't be approached in other mediums as easily.

Because it's freakin' funny. And to all you Na Sayers out there I am a Family Guy viewer/fan. I still watch The Simpsons, I just find Family Guy a whole lot funnier.

Well when seth green (does the voice of the dog Brian)started getting really involved in Adult swim with his show Robot Chicken, I think that the late night adult anime like family guy, futurama, aqua teen and the like got a cult following. And a few weeks ago they started airing brand new episodes of family guy after i dont know how many years without new ones

I think a better question would be, "Why was family guy ever taken off the TV in the first place???"

Cos it's hilarious, much better than the Simpsons (I think you should change your question to why that's still on, it peaked years ago and now is just stale).
It's edgy and quite dark sometimes but at least the writers have balls and aren't just out to shock like the South Park guys (whose last great episode was the Michael Jackson one), they actually create good comedy.

Cause it's the second best cartoon ever. It's right behind the greatness of the Simpsons, and before the other great. Aqua Teen, South Park, The Boondocks, etc.
