Stoney Cove is the most popular dive site in england. The reason is because it can pretty much guarentee calm conditions and good visibility. Plus it has excellent facilities. I am actually going there for the first time at the end of the month to do my advanced PADI, i have heard lots about how crazy busy it is. But Stoney Cove is ultimately a training centre.

A popular inland dive site is Stoney Cove in Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire. It is an old water filled quarry and the facilities at the site are excellent.

When I was PADI training, I went to Stoney for a couple of the qualifying dives, and even at 6.00am on a snowy February morning we had to join a queue of cars waiting to get into the site. I wouldn't say this was the best place in the UK, but I certainly think it is one of the most popular.

Another place in a similar vein is Vobster Quay in Somerset. Lots to look at while on the bottom.

I'd say Stoney Cove is the most popular although god know's why. It's an excellent training facility but once you have seen it all there is no reason to dive there for pleasure. Anywhere on the South coast is excellent diving. Plymouth, Swanage, Isle of Wight. Or some good diving in Wales, Anglesea. Or even Scotland, Oban etc.
