Hi!

I'm planning on a trip to japan next year (spring) along with my partner - he's into cars old and new. Need local insight on the car scene and if there are any drift or racing tracks we can visit, preferably in tokyo.

Or what nights do the guys and girls hoon (race) around the streets if there is a particular night (like in Wgtn, NZ it's Thu and Fri..)

Any other tips re: tokyo and the car scene - much appreciated!

Here are some of the places that I have been to.

The C1 loop, and Tatsumi parking area. If you get onto the Tokyo Shutoko (highway) and get on the C1 outer loop, there are many guys cruising or driving fast around the loop. The loop includes a pass on the Rainbow Bridge. After the Rainbowbridge, we would stop and hang out at Tatsumi Parking area. That is where all the people with their cars would hang out. This usually was a Fri and Sat midnight thing.

If you want a more side show thing, (but nothing like the sideshows of Oakland and L.A.) you can cruise down to the Yokohama area and go to Daikokufuto parking area. This place has more of the same people hanging around. Around new year's day, the young punks AKA Yankeezu (Yankees) and bozozoku gather and show off their wild rides. On most normal Fri - Sat nites, it's more people just hanging and driving the highways.

My friends loved to do those things because it was one of the few times in the day or night that we could drive around with low traffic. A few times we would drive our cars way out to Tokyo Bay Aqualine.

For Drifitng go to the D1 website, there are drift race events held monthly. These are usually way out in the countryside. D1 used to visit the Tokyo Bay Odaiba area once a year.

Another option is the Hot Version festivals, (videos and magazine company) These are usually all day festivals with drift races, grip races, vendor booths, car shows, race queens and everything that goes with the motosports scenes in Japan.

I used to go to these events years ago, and I came wrote some information on a webpage. It is a free webpage provider so turn on your pop up blockers to full strength.

Below are some pics from the C1 loop.

FF Tokyo Drift was a fun laugh for me, since I live in the Shibuya ward. I have been looking for that parking garage and I still cannot find it.

If there is street racing taking place in Tokyo, it's likely going to be in the wee hours on Sunday or Moday mornings. Otherwise it's kind of hard to race in a traffic jam, and Tokyo has traffic jams at 02:00 on some weeknights. The people who do it will move it all around to avoid law enforcement, but often times they will just hang out at family restaurants etc. on either end of the Bay Bridge. If the traffic or cops are too thick they just hang out on any given night. For a legit venue, Fuji Speedway is the closest to Tokyo and Motegi has all kinds of stuff going on as well.

Tokyo is the capital of Japan, and the place where over 13 million people live, making it one of the most populous cities in the world but also, a big city to visit, find out more with hotelbye . Most of the city was devastated by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, and then again by the bombing in the WWII, however, Tokyo was able to achieve a remarkably rapid recovery both times. The main attraction of Tokyo is the Imperial Palace with its beautiful 17th-century parks surrounded by walls and moats. The palace is still in use by the Imperial family.

Actually, TOO FAST TOO FURIOUS like that thing is not true in Tokyo.
But from Friday night to next early morning in bay area of Tokyo, you could see it. Occasionally Odaiba area, Harumi or Daikoku wharf.
Or think to try D1 race?
