Is it considered abuse if I hit my girlfriend using an open hand?

Some guy told me as long as you used an open hand on a girl it wasn't abuse but if you used a closed fist it was.

Yes, it's definitely abuse no matter how you hit her. If you don't don't harm her in a physical way, you can be almost sure you will in the emotional way. Don't you realize how much it hurts? It is a memory the one you hit can't ever get rid of, and will have to cope with for the rest of their life. And it doesn't matter if you don't hit her hard, it's just as painful either way.

Please, just don't hit anybody. It's not worth it, as you'll be ruining the life of another person. Also, you risk a prison sentence when the person you hit feels strong enough to go against you. It is likely that day will come if you hit repetitively. So stop it at once!
