it cost me a leg when some idiot drove his car into the side of me... had i been in a car it would have pinned me inside... the guy was doing 60 when he hit me... as it wass i got thrown clear... and i lived...
it was 26 years ago... i still ride, i have a BMWk100RS trike.... it used to be our bikes were way faster than cars, nowadays we seem to have lots of boy racers in cars whhich are as fast as the bikes, and far less manouverable... and kids with zero road experience are at the wheel...legally.
as bikers know, were restricted fo rupto 4years before we can throw a leg over a superbike... thats 4years and thousands of miles experience... just jacking up insurance rates to dissuade young kids from driving isnt effective, esp when mum and dad foot the bill. put a power limit of 50hp on the young kids, who are dying just as effectively as the bikers... but in FAR greater numbers.... you just have to look at the ammount of revenue gatso camera generate to see how fast everyone drives... and car drivers outnumber bikers hundreds to 1...
and ill bet the majority of biker related injuries are caused by car drivers... we arent all hitting walls at 180mph... (the figures arent specific)
bikes are inherently dangerous, but nothing gives you such a buzz... we al like to drive quickly, but we do it appropriately, or we die..or as in my case, lose a leg, the use of my right arm, and a wicked scar...
if i got these injuries in the Falklands id be a hero, as it is im just a statistic...

The UK.gov want to put speed limiters on motor bikes. What us road users must understand, is that it is time for us all, bikers, motorists etc to join forces against the UK.gov on any plan which will restrict our freedom of the road.
Do not fall into the trap, as some have already done, of snootily saying that bikes should have speed controls fitted, just because one young biker did the ton and got caught. It happens, we've all done it.
I'm a seriously experienced motorist since 1960. Hitting the ton is nothing much. Okay, so on the roads when crowded it can be dangerous. In Germany they know how to use their Autobahns and allow high speed cars, top of the range Mercs, BMWs etc to 'race' at speed well over the ton.
Unity is strength. United we stand, divided we fall.
