I believed he is self-acknowledged as being gay. He appears in a film about the gay scene in Hollywood's history.

I read his auto bio a few yrs ago,He said he was gay,Untill he met Victoria Principal,she was the first woman he slept with,then he said he never went the other way again!!

If he wasn't he sure had us fooled. He acted gay in Psycho and Mahogany with Diana Ross. I would say he was.
