need some help?

well i have a 55 gallon with a 6 1/2 inch bala shark, and 6 inch columbian shark(catfish), 5 inch knife fish, and 4 black skirt tetras. when my tank started leaking out i didn't know what to do, so i left it alone for how many weeks maybe month(s) or so, then the leak got sealed by itself, the reason i didn't move or did something was, i didn't know what to do because the leak is coming from under the tank which is really a lot of stress for me to move my fish into a container and seal the tank for maybe a week or so, it might kill my fish so i didn't do it. good thing about though was, the leak was sealed unknowingly maybe because i didn't do any water changes or whatever that may give weight on entire tank, the tank lost about 1/4 of its original water level. Now the problem is, i haven't done a weekly water changes since the leak came and was sealed, i was afraid to do any water change thinking it might break the glass underneath. swimming around the top, he's not weak or so, i've been feeding him a pellets together with frozen bloodworms for the other fish, i know that columbian sharks or catfish likes brackish water when they reach adulthood, could this be a sign of the catfish wanting brackish water? my other fish seems to fine with the water, or is my catfish just playing around the top? he doesn't look sick, no "white spots" no fungus! completely in good shape? just noticed a change in his behavior.

I think the most likely cause of the shrks chamnge in behavior is poor water quality. Low oxygen, high ammonia, high nitrates, any of those could be a cause. I don't blame you for being afraid to change water, the leak probably got filled by some normal gunk in the water and cleaning it could make it leak again. I would still suggest you empty and seal the tank as soon as you an. Try using a large bucket or two as well as maybe a clean cooler to house the fish for a day. Most aquarium sealet will dry and cure in 24 hours if kept in the 70's during the drying time. An air pump or two should keep the fish in good shape while it dries. Remember to keep your filter pads in one of the buckets too as you want to save the bacteria that's on them. Gravel too wouldn't hurt at all.

...I know that this is extreme but it sounds like you need to get this tank fixed. My cheap solution, a kiddie pool (yes those plastic things you get at walmart for about $10)!
You can probably fill it with your existing tank water, attach your filter to the side (or canister if you have one). You could even put your heater in there. I would be very suspicious of placing it directley on the plastic but i'm sure you could find a way to keep it from melting the side. While this would give your fishes less swimming space (deep) it would give you a few days to get the problem fixed.

(P.S. I can't even believe that i thought of such a far-fetched plan, never mind that i'm submitting it)

My albino cats play at the top all the time.They are healthy.I think It's something to do with playing with raw air.I do suggest you get the tank fixed, if it burst the seam that is leaking for some reason you wont have any fish>Bummer

If you find the crack, put the fish in a temporary tank(maybe borow one) and put water proof sealent on it, let it dry put water and fish back in after it dries. Get a seprate brackish water tank for the catfish.
