I really want to get some stuff of my old computer hard drive, but I have a laptop. The hard drives don't hook up the same so I was hoping to get a schematic a website or some instructions on how to make one so I can plug it into my laptops usb port and get the files off of it

The files are on the old hard drive which is IDE
I need to copy them to my new laptop which has a completely different hook up

so I cant just buy a new external hard drive because it wouldn't come from the store with my files on it...Oh and I don't have the old computer anymore just the old hard drive

The schematics would explain the pin out configuration, however, that would still leave you with a power problem.
The IDE drive needs a 12v connection.

I suggest you buy an external housing for the hard drive. It will still be usefull as a backup device after the files are transfered.

Examples:
(as cheap as $30)

Fortunately you don't really need to go to such lengths; you could just obtain an external USB hard drive to plug into the laptop and copy the files to it.

Hi. Try an external harddrive. They use USB and just show up as another drive.

Check this site below, they sell one already made. Or do a google search for IDE to USB converter.
