To answer the question you actually asked, the 1972 Super Bowl had the Cowboys defeating the Dolphins, so they were the Super Bowl Champions in 1972.
The 1973 Super Bowl played after the '72 season had the Dolphins beating the Redskins and once again proving that if the holder on a field goal attempt bobbles a snap, the kicker should just fall on the ball instead of trying to make something happen. -sigh-
The Dolphins were also the only undefeated champions in the Super Bowl era. Other teams were undefeated champions before the Super Bowls and AFL/NFL merger, but only the Dolphins have been since.
