Sammy Sosa will not start for the Texas Rangers. There are 32 teams in MLB, 10 teams in your league. He should NOT be on anyones roster.
That said,
I think he will have a much better year that people [should] expect. I could see him playing in anywhere between 40-80 games depending on performance. His average will not be stellar as it never has, expect him to hit in the 260-275 range. I could see him hitting 15-18 bombs possibly, but no more than that.
He will be a solid contributer to the Rangers, but he should not come close to a fantasy roster.

Not a good fantasy option. he is likely to be a 4th outfielder in Texas and while he is doing nicely in spring training (like a lot of guys that arent quality big league material) he hasnt had to deal with the national media scrutiny that will be coming his way once the real season gets underway. Scrictly speaking from a fantasy perspective he would be a wasted pick simply because he has to deal with a lot of distractions and has to prove he can play without any "supplements". There are a lot of better options that should be available later in your draft or even on the free agent list than someone with so many question marks. If he does get off to a good start then maybe consider picking him up off the free agent list.

It might be a good idea, but it would be kind of strecthing.
Spring training numbers mean absolutely nothing, in past years Andruw Jones has hit over .400 for the spring, and he can't even manage to hit .300 during the season. Spring games are against guys that are working on new pitches, or trying to get the feel of the mound after a 5 months hiatus, or even more commonly minor league pitchers.
I don't think that his season will be bad, I mean he is playing in Arlington which is a pretty good hitters park, but he won't be a great fantasy guy.
Honest opinion:
20 HR, 80rbi, 60 runs, .270 BA (assuming he is healthy all year)

Sosa is perhaps the major story coming into the season. He has a proven track record at the major league level, so he may be one to take a flyer on early in the season.
You would think that he should get off to a good start - not playing in the field every day, possibly as a DH - and the "cooling off" period could come later. I base that on Sosa being a veteran, possibly in as top physical shape as he has been in some time and keen mentally to prove the critics - especially in Chicago - wrong.
And you know how April and May are anyway......it takes that much time to figure out how players are going to shake out for the season.

I think he would be effective as a fourth outfielder- I wouldn't count on him being anything else. Once he's actually facing major league pitching instead of farmhands, his stats will go way down. If you can get 25 HRs and 80 RBIs out of him, that's probably enough to offset his likely poor batting average and high Ks, depending on what kind of league you're in.

If it comes to drafting him, I wouldn't waste a pick on him in a 10 person league. There are so many outfielders that will do better than the best you can expect from Sosa. If he's a free agent & he becomes a consistent starter,he could be a good pick-up.

Its just spring training. I dont think he will be close to what you expect from him. He might make a good 5 or 6 outfielder but there are to many other players who are going to have a better
year.
