Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood
Here an alternative way to cure gout?

First of all if your dad has gout, you should know that there is no cure for gout. The only treatment is a special diet and medication to help with the swelling and pain. You should eliminate red meats, tomatoes and tomatoe sauce, orange juices or any juices high in citric acids, any foods high in uric acids, cheeses, and gravy. You may be able to find a more specific list on the Internet through a search engine.

If it's a foot keep it elevated and drink lots of water. No rich foods. Don't take Ibuprofen, use an aspirin product.Fruit juices and plenty of WATER. Gout is from eating way to rich foods and can be controlled by a healthy diet. Salads veggies and little red meat.

Black cherry or Black cherry extract. I have used it several times to treat patients with gout. You can get the extract at a good health food store, just follow the recommended dosage on bottle.

Yes, there is a way, but it's a lot of work! Get (or make) two or three trays about 2'X3' with an inch or so of dirt in the bottom. Plant wheat in it, and keep it moist, until you get it about six in. tall. You cut it then (however much you will use, it needs to be FRESH) then juice it. It's better if you have a pressure type juicer than a spin type, so you don't oxidize the juice. He should drink 1/3 of a little juice glass of it at least twice a day. If he can't get it down (it's really strong) just fell the glass the rest of the way up with water. NO SUGAR!! The other trays are to get the wheat-grass growing and up to the usable size while you are using the other tray. I know for a fact that wheat-grass will help several other things too, including "shingles"! Good Luck! (You will learn that wheat need a lot of sun, but can be grown inside during the winter). As you start, plant the trays about a week apart. You'll soon see how much and how often you need to for you're use. If dirt isn't available where you live, you can buy it at Wal-Mart or any garden, or nursery (like for flowers and plants). Also, it works better to spray on the water to avoid a FLOOD.
