My dad was a pillar of the community. He served 8 years on the school board. Was influential in local, county, state & to an extent national politics. He respected everyone; from toddlers learning to walk & talk to the elderly concerned with death. He was a farmer, mechanic and business leader. He once met a man that everyone said was crazy and stupid, including his family. Dad took him to a doctor, he was clinically deaf and had a speech impediment. One day it rained. Joe walked up to him and told dad he heard it. He had never heard it rain in 34 years of life. Joe became a very close friend of the family. And people looked at him differently. Now they saw a sane & intelligent man. Dad passed away in January '95. It was cold, dreary, snow and ice on the ground. People stood outside during the funeral procession. The facility was not large enough to hold them all. I look back on that day and I think he must have accomplished what God had intended for him to. He was a well liked and much loved man. I am grateful God saw fit for him to be my Dad.

I have never actually met him in person.
I have spoken to him once on the phone when my sister and I called him up to see if he was interesting in meeting us.
We were 16 and 19 at the time.
He said he would love to and he would even pay for our flights and accommadation~~~~but we were NOT to tell his 3 sons (12,14&17) he now has who we really were!
He wanted us to say we were daughters of a friend from work!
We declined his offer.
I really do feel a bit sorry for him as I have 3 wonderful children and my sister also has a wonderful daughter and he as their blood granfather is missing out completly on thier lives. I also feel sorry for my 1/2 brothers because they have 3 neices and a nefew they are totally unaware of!
His Loss!!!!

When I was young, my dad was a caring, outgoing person, who loved to teach. He was decent artist, and was an intelligent, critical thinker. He was always very self-conscious about his social class, and aspired to be more. He turned completely around, abandoned his family, disinherited me, and set off to make his millions (literally) while my mother and I struggled for food. He became extremely violent and abusive during this time, using his children as surrogates for frustration and intimacy. Because of his actions, I almost died, and I lost a baby. I now choose to have no contact with him, and will always, I think, feel like something irreplaceable was broken when he became a slave to his greed.

My Dad was so handsome. Dark hair, blue eyes. He died when he was 38. He would have turned 69 yesterday. He was a cool guy, but ran with a bad crowd.

My dad was a big kid with a big heart. He was an alcoholic and an addict though so he died young. He was 36 and I was 16.
