There is a "physics for dummies." It's pretty good for a beginner since it does the math for you and you can just read the conclusion if you want. It's also easily read-able so you can jump to different chapters in any order and you won't get confused.

visit a local school and ask whomever is in charge of textbooks to let you borrow the "Principals of Technology" or "Physics for the Technologies" texts. They make it so simple to learn.
