Because most fantasy leagues have a maximum inning pitched cutting pitchers and picking up starters will be the worst thing you could do. Once you hit your maximum innings the pitching stats wont count anymore so each transaction would be wasted plus you may be releasing pitchers that are very good and other teams will surely snatch them up. Actually you may be best to pick up 3 good starters and then get 1 or 2 dominating bullpen guys who arent closers (do some research, there are 5 or 6 really good ones). These guys wont eat up innings, will pick up an occasional win and will carry very impressive ERAs and Whips (the top ones are great for over a K per inning). Pick smart and make sure you manage your innings well, some guys are great pitchers at home but are terrible on the road so if you spot start them (start them only at home) you will do better. A manager with a good strategy will do as well as someone who trys to draft all the studs early, plus they will not give up all the great hitters (use a good strategy and you wont need to waste your top picks on pitching, good pitching can be had very late in every draft).

It depends on the scoring set up of your league and the pitching limits.
If you're in a points league that doesn't penalize losses, doesn't count era and whip, then I'd say play a little pitch and ditch but only pick up pitchers in good match ups, against weak teams in good pitchers ball parks.
If it's a roto league I'd suggest staying with the 5 "aces" though I find it hard to believe your team has 5 ace starteres. If you do your offense must suck. Either that or it's a very shallow league.
But anyways, I'd rather have the studs, who might not give as many wins, based on their pitching schedules, but they'll put comprable strike outs compared to whats on the wiaver wire, and much better ratios, (era and whip).

Keep 2 aces because if you have all 5 aces they'll pitch once a week so you can get 5-7 wins

I say keep 3 and add and drop 2 from time to time in favorable match ups against week teams.

i could believe the guy who reported to %. up Chris youthful. he's been recovering for the previous 2 years, pitches interior the main pitcher friendly park interior the league and can carry the warmth. he will submit ok's jointly as bringing a sturdy era and WHIP. i could drop Gordon, he's getting previous and not extremely as powerful. Beckett could be a competent determination, he gets wins, yet he pitches at Fenway, a intense hitters park, so his era will climb. It feels like on your league there is numerous pitching to bypass around, so no might desire to stockpile Relievers. there is often going to be a servicable guy on the waiver cord, in simple terms save a beware if Rivera or Wagner bypass on the DL.

All I can say is if you change your pitching every day, it will eventually catch up with you and you will be screwed. Most leagues have maximums for inning pitched so if you have 5 starters going every day, you will fill your innings quota sometime around the All Star Break
